FLYING CHANGES for Dummies by Liz Tollarzo
Even though horses can naturally do flying changes on their own, once they have a rider on their back asking for them to change canter lead on demand the likelihood of a successful change comes down to timing and correct preparation.

The Growth of ADULT RIDING CLUBS
by Wendy Elks
The boom in Adult Riding clubs, particularly in Victoria where over 6000 members are involved in the Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria, attests to the fact that riders are getting back into the saddle or looking for options in a club that offers education, inter-club competitions and a friendly social atmosphere.

FROM THE JUDGE'S EYE by UK correspondent Michelle Parkyn, with Stephen Clarke
Ahead of his visit to Australia in November, FEI 5* Olympic dressage judge Stephen Clarke shares his advice for those looking to improve their training and maximise their dressage score.

HONEY BANDAGE ... A Hoofbeats Reader’s Story

PREMARIN MARES by Kaye Meynell
Millions of women have taken Hormone Replacement Therapy to alleviate their menopausal symptoms. What many may not know, however, is where the oestrogen comes from in the drugs that they may be taking. Pregnant mares are ‘farmed’ to source the oestrogen and many query the welfare implications.

DIAGNOSE THAT ITCH by Professor Ken Mason
Itching is a common complaint in equine medicine. Horses can be seen at any time of the day, having a good rub against the tree or on the fence. A good scratch may be harmless but when a horse itches excessively then horse owners do need to investigate the cause.

TIME TO RIDEby Kaye Meynell
Horse ownership requires a considerable commitment, both in time and money, and as owners juggle these responsibilities with other commitments in their lives it makes sense to be as organised as possible, minimising wasted effort and expenses and maximising time to ride and enjoy your horse.
TURMERIC by Doug English
It may surprise many to know that the jar of golden yellow spice in their pantry spice rack contains a product that can do more than just add a colour to curry.

Gotland Russ or Pony

An old Swedish breed, that is claimed to be descended from Tarpans that lived on the small islands of Gotland, on the south east coast of Sweden, right after the ice age.

The Gotland Pony is the only breed of pony native to Sweden. The Öland horse from the neighbouring island of Öland was a close relative of the Gotland, but became extinct early in the 20th century.
