Jenny McCamish was a well respected member of the Endurance Riding community who sadly passed away several years ago. This ride is organised by the Collie Endurance & Trail Riders Club and is held at collie each year, this time on 18th June.
After some very wet rides this year it was pleasant to have a sunny day even though the mercury dropped to zero degrees on Saturday morning for the start of the event. For the first time in two years the South Branch of the Collie River was flowing. The three longer distance rides, 80km official, 60km & 40 km training rides all went through the water which was knee deep on the horses. The 20 km riders has a different route which took them away from the river. Only a few horses hesitated at the water but with encouragement from their riders soon crossed it. The footing is good here so no-one had to worry about getting bogged down.
Fred Dilley riding Emitno Jumah a purebred Arab gelding who combines the well known bloodlines of Silmaril Chand & Aquanitor won the heavy weight division in the fast time of 4 hours and 3 minutes.

The Purebred Arab mare Bluegrass Angelina (by D’amors Saabi Khan x Nihal Phillipa), owned & ridden by Liz Mulcahy reached the 3000km mark.
Les Mutton (well into his senior years) and riding the rising nineteen year old part Arab mare Kaisi View Kassandra was all smiles as he crossed the river.
We had twenty eight riders set out in the 80 km ride with one rider withdrawing her mount and one more vetting out. One horse was withdrawn at the pre-ride vetting for the 40 km training ride with one more vetting out. All of the horses in the 60km & 20 km events successfully completed the rides. Head vet Anne Barnes congratulated everyone on managing their horses so well. |
