Record
of horse and competitor details for officials at horse events
Prepared by veterinarians
from the recreational horse industry, Racing and Wagering Western
Australia (RRWA), and the Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA)
in consultation with the WA Horse Council
Check for declarations
The Horse Health Official must check that a declaration has been
filled in for horses arriving at an event.
The declaration must be completed in all respects and signed by
the person in charge of the horse.
Where a declaration has not been completed prior to fronting at
the event details must be collected by the Horse Health Official
The Horse Health Official must retain the declarations for no less
than 28 days after the completion of the event.
The information required is listed on the declaration and includes:
The name of the person in charge of the horses to list their
contact details.
The name and identification details of the horses.
Detail of the property from which the horses have come and
to where they are returning after the event.
Signed and dated declarations regarding the health of the
horse and cleaning; and
Disinfection of horse equipment and horse vehicles used.
Where horses arrive without a declaration
Where the horse is not accompanied by a declaration, the Horse Health
Official must record:
The name, address and contact details of the person in charge
of the horse.
The identification (colours, marks, brands ) of the horse(s).
The address from of the property from which the horse has
travelled to the event.
The address of the property to which the horse is returning
after the event.
The information must be retained for a minimum of 28 days
after the event.
Veterinary on call cover
The Event organisers are required to have made contact with a local
veterinarian prior to the event ensuring veterinary coverage in
an on call capacity. Veterinary on call capability needs to be available
in the event
that the Horse Health Official deems that a horse is unwell and
has respiratory symptoms.
Symptoms to query may include a horse:
Not eating normally.
Having a nasal discharge that is serous or purulent.
Has a cough.
Has a temperature greater than 38.5°C.
